Subaru has been offering great value to the multi-use marketplace for years. Their flagship automobile, the Subaru Outback, continues to enjoy a loyal following and for good reason. The new '09 Model remains true to form and function. Why radically change something that works so well. Sure, some minor cosmetic changes and, of course, upgrades to the onboard technology, never hurts, but the Outback has reliably held it's own for years.

   Another model which is starting to complement the Outback is the '08 Subaru Forester. This is the second generation and it includes some major makeovers inside and out. Both the 2.5 X and 2.5 XS variants share a 2.5 L/165-hp F-4 engine, five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission. The suspension system is very well prepared and to complement this there is also full-time AWD, limited-slip differential, four-wheel ABS discs and raised sport suspension.

   The Subaru Multi-use History
   If Subaru has gotten one thing right in the demanding U.S. car marketplace it is this: offer the public vehicles that can be used in multiple ways. The Forester and the Outback are perfect examples of this. The new Subaru Liberty carries on a strong tradition of this philosophy. Another aspect of Subaru's success in the U.S. marketplace is their recognition that people in the States like to travel and that there is no shortage of open spaces to view and enjoy.


Add the fact that there is public access to forestry roads and backwoods gravel type roads, not to mention just good old fashion off-road type driving, and you have a winning combination. Subaru, of course, was first building out vehicles for the European marketplace which can be very demanding. A person driving on a day trip in Europe proper may encounter every conceivable driving condition and with 4-wheel drive, both on-demand and full-time, getting to where you want to be is not a problem.
