Saab is serving their audience well and working to bring more faithfuls. The new 2007 Saab 9-3 is completely redesigned and reengineered for 2007. Gone is the hatch-back look, in is the sporty sedan look. Saab has always dared to be different because of their aeronautical background - wrap-around windshields, aircraft style dashboards and other unique features. Now that Saab is owned by GM, the looks are becoming more mainstream because GM's bottom line is at stake. On the flip side, Saab has more money to develop out new ideas...so one should expect to see some new features in the future.
Saab 9-3 Sedan
The all-new Saab 9-3 is initially available in Linear trim, powered by a new 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine rated at 175 horsepower. The 9-3 Arc and Vector models will be available midway through the model 2007 year with a more powerful 210-hp version of the same engine and an optional six-speed manual gearbox.
The Saab 9-3 Linear model is not going to set any speed records because of only 175 horsepower. If you like the feel of a manual tranny, opt for the five-speed manual transmission as it is much more fun and it gives the car a sporty edge. Although the five-speed automatic is very pleasant the Linear model needs more oomph to overcome the inevitable losses from an automatic transmission. (The Arc and Vector models should address this.)

Some of the other models that help to round out this years Saab model lineup are the Saab 9-5 Wagon, the Saab 9-3 Viggen and other models. Saab approaches the automotive industry with a very industrial slant. Having built out jet fighters as part of their industrial base, their vehicles have some of this technology incorporated. For example, the Saab 9-3 has the ignition switch located on the floor. This is a typical location for ignition switches for jet fighters. Very cool stuff....
